It had been part of our collective thinking to establish
a leadership position in the crafting of steel frames and
then diversify into titanium. The 1998 hiring of Tyler Evans,
an experienced welder from Merlin, the Fall of 1999 hiring
of Matt Bracken, Merlin's chief sales person, and lastly the
2001 hiring of Keith Rouse, former Merlin welder helped Independent
to start on the right track. Three of the founders of IF,
Mike Flanigan, Jeff Buchholz, and Lloyd Graves had experience
with titanium during their Fat City years.
This provided IF with a strong foundation of experience
with which to launch the titanium line of custom frames. Already
in it's second year of titanium production IF has three possible
choices in the silvery grey metal from which to choose.
Tyler sculpted our head badge and John Henkel of the Sterling
Gallery in Maine casts each by hand from one solid ounce of
Sterling Silver. The future owner of one of our Ti frames
has six decal color choices to complement the sparkly "shot
peened" finish of our Ti products.
Paint is a no charge option for the Titanium Crown Jewel
for panels painted on the down tube and seat tube. The new
Ti Deluxe and Planet Cross Ti are also available with paint
options at an additional charge.
